Anesthesiology education

A candidate interested in a future profession as an anesthesiologist needs to take up admission in a bachelors degree program, however before that they have to take up subjects like math, science related subjects like physics, chemistry and biology. Then is the stage where you will have to give an entrance test in Medical College Admission Test MCAT, which determines your entry into good medical schools. Once in the medical school you need to acquire a Doctor of medicine degree M.D, where you gain exposure and experience in medical fields like pharmacy, surgery, internal medicine and cardiology. This entails 4 years in all with 2 years of theory and two years of projects and clinical experience. The third stage is the Residency which takes another 4 years of specializing as an anesthesiologist. The first year is used up gaining experience in all the general medical areas. Then the next 3 years are focused entirely on anaesthesiology. Ultimately one has to pass the Certification stage where the right candidate is awarded with a certificate from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) or the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). This can be done after a theory and viva exam. Finally you need to get a licence to practice in different states of U.S.A. A few medical schools offer combined undergraduate and medical school programs that last 6 years rather than the customary 8 years.
