Women Threatened By The High Rate Of False Positive Mammograms

A professor of medicine at UCSF School of Medicine . Karla is also co-author of the study, which was just published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Now there’s another reason to be concerned about the push for women to have a yearly mammogram. In a new study by the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) Research shows that women who receive annual mammograms decade, more than half of these women are called and told the heartbreaking news that their tests are positive when in fact they are free of cancer. Victims of false positives – and not a malignant tumor – are subjected to various tests. In fact, one in twelve of these women undergo invasive surgery, which can scar biopsy.

“This study provides an accurate estimate of the risk of false positive mammography and breast biopsy in women undergoing repeat mammography in practice, and that important information about the possible disadvantages of mammography,” says Karla Kerlikowske, a professor of medicine at UCSF School of Medicine . Karla is also co-author of the study, which was just published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Results of the false-positive mammogram rampant
By simply changing the detection of cancer each year in two years, researchers have shown that the risk that a woman has a false-positive results increased from 61 percent to 42 percent (about a third) more than ten years. They also found that if the radiologist simply review the previous mammograms of a patient “can halve the chances of a withdrawal of false positives.”
The study found that women who started having mammograms at age 40 instead of 50 were much more prone to false positives that led to costly and unnecessary medical tests, including biopsies.
The new study found that after a decade of annual assessments, the majority of women receive at least one false positive result. Of these, 7 to 9 percent will be faced with a biopsy and the risks involved – complications from anesthesia scars to infection – even though these women are, in fact, not cancer.
The US Preventive Services Task Force guidelines now recommend a mammogram two years from age 50 and continued until the age of 74th, but many doctors still recommend an annual mammogram, often from the age of 40.And what about the argument that annual mammograms are necessary to catch the cancer early enough to cure? The researchers found that women be screened every two years were not significantly more likely to be diagnosed with advanced cancer. The research, led by the Group Health Research Institute in Seattle for the Consortium monitoring of breast cancer, investigated false-positive mammography by studying the records of about 170 000 women aged between 40 and 59 in seven regions around the the United States. Nearly 4500 of these subjects were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.

What Blu-Ray Features Should You Consider Before Purchasing A Blu-Ray Disc Player?

There are many blu-ray features to consider when buying a Blu-ray player. Here is a brief outline of the important things to know regarding blu-rays. Knowing these blu-ray features will help you get the best Blu-ray player.

Blu-ray Player are getting cheaper and cheaper. And yes, all of these players, even the cheap ones, will give you great High-Definition images and audio quality to your films. As well as being more affordable, these players are always adding more and more different Blu-ray features. So there are other factors to consider before you decide to shop for a Blu-ray Player. The simple fact is, if you own a HDTV or planning on buying one in the future, you owe it to yourself to buy a Blu-ray Disc Player. But don’t rush out and get one just because you own a HDTV. There are certain factors about Blu-ray DVD Players you should be aware of and knowing what they are will help you make a better choice.

For one thing, and this may surprise you, it is not all about High-Definition. While the main reason for getting a Blu-ray DVD Player is to enjoy the stunning, crystal-clear images they produce; don’t forget about its standard-definition performance. Many of us still own a large collection of DVD movies. Blu-ray players are not only capable of playing back DVDs, they can up-scale them to a higher definition. So how well a player can do this should be factored into your decision, especially if you are still going to be watching a lot of DVDs.

Also, every player will at some point will have firmware upgrades. Firmware is used by manufacturers to fix problems with performance or to add new features to the player after the player has reach the market place. Players that have an Ethernet connection are simple to upgrade, as firmware can easily be downloaded and then installed rather quickly. The other method is to download the firmware to your computer and then burn it on a DVD, which you then insert into your player. This method can be time-consuming and certainly more difficult.

Having a HDTV is an oblivious factor to consider. Most HDTVs manufactured today are capable of 1080p resolution, but there are some older model HDTVs with only 720p resolution. If this is the case, images from the player will be scaled down to match the HDTVs resolution. Images will still be of high quality and in High-Definition, however. And if you are thinking about getting a 3D player to view 3D movies, your HDTV must be 3D capable; and you will need a pair of 3D glasses for each person.

Of course producing HD images is only half of what you get with Blu-ray players. You also get high-resolution audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. These are lossless formats that give us studio-master audio. Meaning we get the soundtrack identical to the original, without losing and sound quality. Most players can decode these formats internally or the signal can be transmitted via bit-stream through a HDMI cable to an A/V receiver. Of course, if connecting to a A/V receiver it must have a HDMI input. Some players do have multichannel analog outputs, which is great for those with older, non-HDMI A/V receivers. But these players tend to be high-end models and will cost more. DVDs and HD television programs are not capable of supporting these latest high-resolution formats.

Another important thing to consider is a network connection. Almost every player manufactured in the last couple of years will be BD-Live compliant. This means you need to connect the player to the internet to download content or interact with others. BD-Live features are found on certain Blu-ray discs and consists of deleted scenes, bonus scenes, chat rooms, live commentary, online games and other online content.

These, BD-Live compliant players will have an Ethernet port that requires a cable to connect to the internet. Some players will provide a Wi-Fi option, making it a lot more convenient to connect to the internet. These wireless players cost a little more than regular players, but many of us do not have an Ethernet cable in our living rooms, so the extra cost is worth it. Especially since many Blu-ray Players offer access to Online Streaming Media Services. Services like Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, Pandora, Amazon VOD, Hulu Plus and much more. Having a player that can easily connect to the internet is fast becoming one of the most important features of any Blu-ray DVD Player.

The last thing you should consider is shopping at different places to look for the best possible price for a Blu-ray DVD Player. You will find players can have a wide range of prices. The good news is that most entry-level and mid-level players are considerably cheaper than they were a couple of years ago. You can get a good, solid Blu-ray player for about $80.00 to $200.00. So the time has never been more perfect for purchasing a Blu-ray player. And if you keep the above factors in mind when choosing a player, you will soon be enjoying the best that Home Entertainment has to offer.

Quick Bucks Vs Laying The Ground Work

Making a living online is one of the most advanced ways to succeed in the business world. Since the Internet is a global economy, your chances to succeed are much better than they would be in the brick and mortar game

Making a living online is one of the most advanced ways to succeed in the business world. Since the Internet is a global economy, your chances to succeed are much better than they would be in the brick and mortar game. Giving you an even better shot is the reality that you don’t need an inventory, face to face salesmanship, or even much of a budget to get started and earning. What you do need, however, is to put in the time necessary to get ahead. That’s where most marketing businesses online succeed, and it’s also where the vast majority fail. In order to be in with the top earners, it is important that you tear down some of the myths about earning online. The main myth to get started on is this: earning on the web is easy and takes very little work.

People push this idea, which is actually true to some extent, without divulging the nuts and bolts. It’s true. Yes, you can automate your earnings online and make money while you sleep. You can put in about 30 minutes of work per day and earn a six figure income. All these things are possible, but in order to actually get to that point, you must first lay the ground work. That is something that far too many scam products fail to mention. One work at home opportunity – the buyer code – is forthright about what you can expect from the program itself. And your expectations are:

The Ability and the Willingness to Aim for Knowledge

Only by first learning the system and getting comfortable with it will you see any success in using it. Some people do not have the ability to remain disciplined and hard working when they get a taste of the work at home life. They either put in too much work in a misguided and impeding fashion, or they don’t do anything at all, expecting the big bucks to just happen without actually learning anything new or meaningful. Then, when the system fails, it is not their fault. Wealth is about taking your responsibility for your own successes and failures. If you want to build serious wealth, then you must be patient with whatever work at home opportunity you select. You must learn the ins and outs as well as the top strategies for making the most of it day after day.

In other words, you have to lay the ground work. A bridge allows for safe and easy passage when it comes to getting where you need to go. But if you don’t first put up the crossbeams, solidify the structure, and lay the asphalt, you’ll never get to the place you want to be. You’ll never gain wealth.
